| 1751: Parisian mineralogist, Jean-Etienne Guettard, notices that stones used to build local homes resemble lava from Vesuvius and Etna. He goes to Puy de la Nugère, which overlooks Volvic, and the pumice stone and areas of lava confirm his theory that these were volcanic mountains.
1752: Guettard announces his findings before the Académie des Sciences, but his theory is not finally accepted for a quarter century.
1927: Significant water resources are discovered under the Puy de la Nugère lava flow.
1961: Deep exploration of the geology reveals water with remarkable purity and composition thus leading to the Clairvic spring.
Today: More than 2 million bottles of Volvic are shipped around the world every day.
